A centrifugal fan is a mechanical device for moving air or other gases in a direction at an angle to the incoming fluid. Centrifugal fans often contain a ducted housing to direct outgoing air in a specific direction or across a heat sink; such a fan is also called a blower fan, biscuit blower , or squirrel-cage fan (because it looks like a hamster wheel).

I have a squirrel cage fan that came out of a furnace. I want to use it in my shop for collecting / filtering the air for the fine sawdust that floats around and settles on everything. I built the filter system and now I'm ready to wire the fan. The fan has an electrical bar with low, medium; medium hi and high. the switch has four wires. Red
I need to know if a 240 volt ac squirrel cage fan motor can be safely run on 120 volts ac. An quick internet search reveals several sources that all say no, but I am concerned that the people answering the question don't know what they are talking about - as is often the case on the internet.
Inspect the wiring diagram printed on the side of the fan motor and write the fan motor's wire colors and the terminals they lead to on a piece of paper with a pencil. The fan motor will have one or two wires, usually brown, that lead to a capacitor. wiring help for squirrel cage fan thanks
